Minister - Cathy Bird
Cathy Bird has been privileged to be the Minister of Union Chapel since January 2025. As an activist and a theologian, Cathy is passionate about the church as a radically inclusive community; she is a coach, pastoral supervisor and spiritual director and an experienced writer of liturgy and hymns. In 2017 she was proud to publish her first book, ‘The Divine Heart of Darkness: Finding God in the Shadows’ (Sacristy Press). She loves to swim, dabbles with Yoga and is an avid supporter of West Ham Utd. Having previously worked in social policy and research in the voluntary sector, Cathy was ordained as a Minister in the Methodist Church in 1997. She is a devoted Londoner, and has a daughter, Meg who is a jazz singer based in Margate. Her partner, Revd David Hardman serves as the Methodist Liaison officer, based in East Jerusalem. She is a Director of House of Rainbow , a faith-based organisation committed the reconciliation of faith and sexuality within BAME communities.
