A lazy afternoon with music, tea and cake

An event for all ages, produced by Arctic Circle

What if you could play a note on the piano and have it last forever?

Pianist, composer and improviser Xenia Pestova Bennett will curate a special afternoon featuring the Magnetic Resonator Piano, an exciting new instrument designed by the radical inventor Andrew McPherson. A grand piano will be completely transformed into a stunning acoustic cyborg with electromagnets suspended above the strings, allowing for control of minute details of shimmering resonance and gorgeous sustained tones.

Also performing will be string ensemble The Ligeti Quartet who since their formation in 2010 have established a reputation for breaking new ground through innovative programming and championing of today’s most exciting composers and artists. Finishing this afternoon Xenia presents Snowpoet debut at Daylight Music, the London based band led by vocalist Lauren Kinsella and bassist Chris Hyson. To date, the band have released two critically acclaimed albums, with the most recent album Thought You Knew (Edition Records). Blending sweet hook-laden vocal lines with warm and lush arrangements, the music is infectious, delicate and tasteful.

Xenia says “I am excited to present this afternoon of special sounds that will bring together the magical Magnetic Resonator Piano with the virtuosity of the Ligeti Quartet. We will also be joined by Snowpoet (with the mesmerising vocals of Lauren Kinsella). I have deep respect and admiration for these artists: it is a real honour to share the stage with them! June also marks a “big” birthday for me and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than through making music together with wonderful people.”

This event is kindly supported by Markson Pianos and PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music.
