Bill (Belinda) Jones is an English folk singer/songwriter. As a young singer in the early 2000s, Bill’s pure voice and folk/pop piano style led to Bill gaining fans from both the folk scene and also the wider acoustic music scene. After several hectic years which included tours across the UK/USA/Japan, a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award, live radio sessions on BBC Radio channels 1-4 and three acclaimed studio albums, Bill took a longer than intended break.
This year, before her new album is released in 2019, Bill is playing two rare concerts, (here at Union Chapel, and also in Sunderland) to raise money for ARC. Accompanied by Jean Pierre Garde (violin, viola) and Miranda Sykes (double bass, vocals), Bill will be playing favourite songs from her three albums, and also new songs which will feature on her 2019 album. It will be a feel-good concert of beautiful songs, dramatic ballads, and lively tunes to get your feet tapping.
ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices), a small UK charity, offers information and non-directive advice on screening in pregnancy, and supports parents when results show that their baby has an abnormality or a life-threatening condition. It can be an extremely distressing time for parents, and having someone who is equipped to help you can make the greatest difference. ARC offers a free helpline for parents where they can talk to a trained member of staff, as well as a secure online forum for parents to speak to others who are going through a similar situation. Additionally,ARC also provides training for healthcare professionals, to deliver difficult news in the right manner and to provide the best support possible for parents.
ARC gave Bill and her family much-needed support through some tough times in 2011-12, and Bill is playing this concert to raise money, and awareness, for ARC.
Bill is also fundraising for ARC via downloads of her song Caden’s Lullaby, and you can listen/download and read Bill’s story here.
