A lazy afternoon with music, tea and cake

An event for all ages, produced by Arctic Circle

Returning for their 5th Year, the incredibly talented young musicians you’ll meet have just taken part in the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) Academy, an intensive three-day training course for gifted young players in the field of period orchestral performance. This is the start of the Ann and Peter Law OAE Experience Scheme, a year-long programme run by the OAE which allows participants to work alongside the Orchestra and perform with world-class soloists and conductors.

Resident at the Southbank Centre, Associate Orchestra at Glyndebourne and Artistic Associate at Kings Place, the OAE is one of the world’s leading ensembles specialising in period instrument performance, playing music on instruments or replicas from the time the music was written. The band is led today by Margaret Faultless, one of the OAE’s three leaders and the Director of the OAE Academy. This performance includes movements from Haydn’s Clock and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphonies.

Istante Collective: Gabi Mass – violin, nickelharpe | Nicola Barbagli – accordion, baroque oboe, recorders

Playing modern and early instruments the duo of Istante Collective will perform on the Nychelharpa combined with baroque oboe and recorder. The accordion will be the ‘glue’ between modern and early tradition, and their travelogue of music will link early baroque-folk tradition of the British Islands to early and current folk tradition of Scandinavian countries. Modern folk compositions will link those two main geographical areas. They’ll highlight how these melodies never stop changing and adapting to a new player/instrument or a new historical time.
