We are always thinking of new ways to engage with the community and seek to provide events that will stimulate both the mind and soul. Upcoming church events are listed under the main listings.
SUNDAY SERVICE AT 11 am
We celebrate communion together on the first Sunday of every month, and ours is an open table to which any believer is invited from any Christian background. We welcome those of any age to our services, and have space to roam and play at the back of the chapel for those who struggle to sit for an hour in a pew!
WEDNESDAY MORNING PRAYER AT 7.15 am
We pray together each week early on a Wednesday, strong coffee is provided! Here we consider, silently or shared, things on our minds during the week. We also include neighbours and the local community, churches around the world and events or people who’ve made us feel blessed.
BIBLE STUDY – FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH
To find out what we are currently studying and to express your interest in attending please email the Church Administrator.
CHAPEL TOURS ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT 12.15 pm
Guided tours lasting around an hour are held after the Sunday service. Numbers are limited, so visitors are asked to book in advance on 020 7359 4019 or email. Longer tours and discussions may be arranged and tailored to particular interests. They are led by Andrew Gardner, Chairman of Islington Archaeology and History Society. Visitors are asked to note that some parts of the buildings have stepped access. A donation of £5 per head is invited towards our upkeep.
OPEN WEDNESDAY 10 am – 1 pm
Every Wednesday we open the church doors to hold an informal morning of tea, coffee and conversation. Every week we organise a different activity. All activities start at 11 a.m. unless otherwise stated. Here is the programme for the next few months (pdf).
GOOD FRIDAY PROJECT
The Good Friday Project at Union Chapel offers people an opportunity both for contemplation and to hear live religious music of a professional standard, every Good Friday afternoon.
These are free annual events for the community, though donations are welcome. This year we will be showing The Passion of Christa where the story of the Passion is retold and re-imagined through the eyes of a female Christ. An evening of performance, ritual and music exploring suffering and grief from a unique perspective. Read more.
The inaugural concert was The People’s Passion, a stunning performance of J S Bach’s St John’s Passion in March 2013, attended by over 900 people. On Good Friday 2014 Scott Stroman and local choir Eclectic Voices presented the next concert, 7 Last Words From The Cross. Last year we held The Passion of Joan of Arc with Live Score.
CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT
Every year a few days before Christmas (check events listings) we hold a Christmas Carol concert were everyone is encouraged to sing both modern and old Christmas songs in a beautiful candlelit setting. This event is well attended every year and has a fantastic festive atmosphere.
