Following a summer of touring in the Europe, which includes several support slots for Sigur Rós, this a great chance to hear Ólafur before he returns home to work on material for his new album.
Ólafur hails from the suburban Icelandic town, Mosfellsbær, just a few kilometres outside Reykjavík. Mixing strings with loops, ambiance, electronics and beats he combines classical instrumentation with an indie-rock aesthetic. The evocative, slow-building orchestral suites take you on a journey through hauntingly melodic chamber music. Ólafur’s EP Variations on Static released earlier this year is an exploration of computer noise with strings and piano and is a beautiful companion to his album Eulogy For Evolution.
finn (aka Patrick Zimmer) is singer/songwriter who’s laptop folk combines delicate live instrumentation and electonica swirls with traditional song writing. His new album ‘the best low-priced heartbreakers you can own’ will be released on 5 September via Plias /Rough Trade.
