GAMELAN SHOKBREKER, TICKETS AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR
Gamelan Shokbreker is a unique collaboration grown out of a long-time musical friendship between Indonesia and Norway. Gamelan is an ancient and beautiful form of orchestral music that has long been a source of inspiration to artists in the West, including Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Brian Eno. Its fluid rhythms and intriguing shapes reveal surprising parallels with the minimalist beats and ambient sounds of Nordic contemporary jazz and electronica, as profiled by the likes of Nils Petter Molvaer and Bugge Wesseltoft.

The Arditti Quartet with Pedro Carneiro [world premier]

The Arditti Quartet is at the pinnacle of contemporary music having premiered the likes of Cage, Stockhausen and Xenakis among many others. This concert, at the mystical Union Chapel in London, will see the ensemble acquiring a new dimension by merging forces with virtuoso Portuguese percussionist Pedro Carneiro on marimba. The programme includes pieces by four prestigious contemporary composers from Portugal – António Pinho Vargas, Clotilde Rosa, Patrícia Sucena Almeida and Luís Tinoco – as well as works by British composers James Clarke and Paul Usher.
