REMEMBER US IN YOUR WILL
Most people make a Will to make sure their family and the people they care most about are looked after when they die. You can also support a charity such as Union Chapel Project by remembering us in your Will. And remember, a bequest to charity is free of inheritance tax. The money you have worked hard for goes to the charity you care about and not to the tax man.
You do not have to be rich to leave a legacy and make a real difference. Everyone who leaves a gift to Union Chapel Project helps to restore the building so that the arts programme and our work with homeless people and refugees can continue.
If you do not have a Will, you can instruct the solicitor who draws up your will to include a bequest to Union Chapel Project.
If you already have a Will, you can add a Codicil to make a bequest to Union Chapel Project. You can leave a Residuary Gift or make a Specific Bequest. A Residuary Gift is the amount which remains in your estate after you have made provision for all the other gifts you wish to make. A Specific Bequest allows you to say exactly how much money or what property or items you wish to donate.
Suggested Wording
If you would like to leave a gift to Union Chapel Project, please take a look at the following wording to ensure that your wishes are carried out correctly.
For a Residuary Gift: "I give the residue of my estate to Union Chapel Project, The Vestry, Compton Avenue, London N1 2XD (registered charity number: 1010166) for its general charitable purposes.* I further direct that the receipt of the Managing Director or other proper officer of Union Chapel Project for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift."
For a Specific Bequest: "I give the sum of (amount in words and figures OR the item specified) to Union Chapel Project, The Vestry, Compton Avenue, London N1 2XD (registered charity number: 1010166) for its general charitable purposes.* I further direct that the receipt of the General Manager or other proper officer of Union Chapel Project for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift."
Adding a Codicil to your Will:
If you are making a codicil, you should naturally take advice over the precise wording, but here is an example of the wording of a typical codicil:
"I GIVE the sum of (amount in words and figures OR the item specified) to Union Chapel Project, The Vestry, Compton Avenue, London N1 2XD (registered charity number: 1010166) for its general charitable purposes.* I further direct that the receipt of the General Manager or other proper officer of Union Chapel Project for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said gift.
IN ALL other respects I confirm my said Will.
IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand this (date in words).
SIGNED by the said (Name) the Testator (Testatrix) as and for a (First) Codicil to his (her) said Will dated the (date) in the presence of us both being present at the same time who at his (her) request in his (her) presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses:"
Signatures of Testator (Testatrix) and two Witnesses, plus their addresses.
* Gifts will be applied to the restoration programme unless you specify otherwise. If the restoration of Union Chapel is complete, we will use your gift to support the charitable activities that take place within Union Chapel.
