Concerts at Union Chapel

Union Chapel has, since 1991 been the best-kept secret on the London music scene. Those in the know regard it as being one of the best places in London to see live music

Situated in the heart of islington, Union Chapel is a breath of fresh air, offering a non commercialised, non branded, independent, unique alternative to other London venues.

Union Chapel creates an ambience and intimacy between audience and performers unlike any other venue in London and offers a non-profit making naturally chilled out environment in which to experience the ultimate fusion of atmospheric high gothic surrounding while enjoying your favourite artists.

Before its closure to arts events in January 2005, the Union Chapel was one of London’s most unique music venues, with exceptional acoustics, a concert venue of International standing with an fantastic reputation for diverse and contemporary performances.

It was awarded ‘The Time Out Live Venue of the Year 2002’ and nominated as one of the 100 reasons to remain in London.

Union Chapel has hosted a wide range of concerts from top international contempory music stars like David Byrne, goldfrapp, morcheeba, Bjork and Beck, to world music favourites like Salif Kieta, Mariza, Ravi Shankar and Baaba Maal.

Community Arts

Union Chapel also plays an important role as a community arts centre for the local and surrounding area and hosts innovative and exiting events for marginalized groups, including Club Nights for people with learning difficulties, other community activities include our recent, ‘Ten Feet Away’ Festival of Homeless Arts, and our regular weekly writing, visual arts and video workshops.  We also welcome users from many ethnically diverse backgrounds who regularly host a variety of cultural events.

The Future

We are now looking to build on our reputation as a premier music venue and move the Union Chapel to a new phase of development as an effective cultural and community resource for London. We will be focusing on the restoration and improvement of the building in order to establish ourselves as a world-class arts centre, attracting the best national and international artists across art forms.

As the first part of the Union Chapels re-launch, we will be re-opening the main chapel space for events from 4th May 2006.
