Tallis Festival Choir
* Thomas Tallis – Spem in alium (40-part motet) * Frank Martin – Mass for Double Choir * Henry Purcell – Hear My Prayer, O Lord * Sven-David Sandström (after Purcell) – Hear My Prayer, O Lord * Eric Whitacre – When David Heard The Tallis Festival Choir, with some 140 singers, will sing Thomas Tallis’ monumental motet Spem in alium for eight choirs from around the gallery of the Chapel – providing the audience with a unique surround-sound experience. The concert will also include Henry Purcell’s Hear My Prayer, O Lord to mark the 350th anniversary of his birth, alongside modern Swedish composer and Ligeti pupil Sven-David Sandström's remarkable elaboration of the same work; and celebrated American composer Eric Whitacre's famous setting of When David heard. The main work of the evening will be Frank Martin’s beautiful Mass for Double Choir. The Tallis Festival is an intensive weekend of rehearsals, culminating in a stunning public concert performed by the Tallis Festival Choir.
