Arctic Circle presents [CRITICS CHOICE TIME OUT]

Food (Rune Grammofon) with Mark Wingfield + Vladislav Delay featuring Lucio Capece (Leaf)
with support from Eyebrow

Finnish composer Sasu Ripatti returns in late summer with Tummaa, his first album as Vladislav Delay since 2007’s Whistleblower. Ripatti is considered a genuine musical maverick; the devotion inspired by the depth, innovation and emotional volume of his music is passionate in the extreme. While he has largely shunned the limelight since emerging as a producer in Helsinki in the late 90s, his prolific output (as Delay, Luomo and Uusitalo, as well as collaborations with partner Antye Greie (AGF)) speaks for itself.

Sasu Ripatti (electronic/percussion) will be joined by Argentinian Lucio Capece (bass saxophone/clarinet) who features on Delay's new album, and first on Leaf, Tummaa (released Sept 7).

'Food' is now in its 11th year and is an enduring partnership between English Saxophonist  Iain Ballamy and Norwegian Percussionist and electronica sensation Thomas Stronen. 'Food' has a contemporary and forward thinking approach to making music, using sound space texture and contrast to create ever-changing moods and environments for improvisation. By combining acoustic elements including bells, blocks, gongs and lyrical saxophone, their music is enhanced and tempered with live sampling and drums creating moods which range from minimalist to very turbulent. Food have released 5 albums, most recently 'Molecular Gastronomy' for the Norwegian label Rune Gramafon. Previous guests invited to play with Food have included pioneering trumpeters Arve Henriksen and Nils Petter Molvaer and the esteemed Austrian guitarist Christian Fennesz and Tom Arthurs.

On Eyebrow - Eyebrow are Paul Wiggens who has played for the legendary punk-jazz band Blurt and Pete Judge who also plays for Get The Blessing (BBC Jazz Award winners 2008).

"Their haunting sounds trickle down the spine like dripping stalactites. With just one drummer, one trumpet player and a host of expertly controlled effects boxes, they create a sound that is both gentle and unsettling. This band would be perfect to stumble across at a festival during daybreak, jamming with the dawn chorus" (Morning Star)
