UNION CHAPEL PRESENTS MARGINALISED

Four very special performances take place in the Union Chapel in support of the Margins Project, an in-house charity for people who are homeless or in crisis in London.

The music of Vernon Elliot (a tribute to the world of Oliver Postgate) performed by North Sea Radio Orchestra.

Produced in association with Trunk Records, this evening celebrates the music Vernon Elliott composed for Oliver Postgate/Smallfilms productions such as The Clangers, Ivor the Engine, Pogle Wood, Noggin the Nog and more.  Featuring specially commissioned music arranged by Craig Fortnam and Laura Rossi performed by the North Sea Radio Orchestra, the Union Chapel will be decorated to reflect the shows to create an irresistible escape to childhood.

In honour of Postgate, who died last December, the concert will also feature a special arrangement of the songs and music of Bagpuss.

Jonny Trunk with compare the concert (who has released some of Vernon Elliot’s music) and is a Postgate expert. Telling little stories to set the scene for each suite of music.

Scenery in the chapel will include a music tree amongst other Postgate influenced props. - We’ll have a sing along at the end of Ivor the Engine amongst other audience participation.

Blue String Pudding and Green Soup (as consumed) in episodes of the Clangers will be available in the Margins Cafe.

There will also be sweet on sale in pink and white bags in the auditorium.

Josie Firmin (daughter of Peter Firmin, co-creator of these films) will be selling her own pottery inspired by these characters.

In the bar we’ll have a creature workshop where you will be able to design and create your own Postgate mask. - How to be a Clanger will be demonstrated during the performance, as we re-create some of the scripts.

Arctic Circle Cinema (under the leadership of Katie English) has created its own 2D film homage. - This is alongside all the wonderful sound and visual memories which will be see on the evening.

Other concerts in this series include:

Fri 23 Oct: Max Richter performing from From The Art of Mirrors
Sat 24 Oct: The Michael Nyman Band feat. David McAlmont
