On Sally Murray:
The Nottingham–born singer’s effortless performances are brought to life by her rich, low voice which is shot through with East Midlands grit. Alongside her vocals are bowed & detuned guitars, piano and subtle percussion all made possible by one little loop pedal.
On A-Line:
Psychedelic folk so pretty it hurts… A-Line sound like Alice in Wonderland at a 1930's jazz appreciation club. Mixing tales of airplane crashes and snow dust they raise the hair on the back of your neck and transport you to their singular world. Taking inspiration from cartography to Ziggy Stardust, Russian kalinka music to Richard Burton they use mostly singing, guitars and trumpet to make the music. They released a 7" double A side on their own label Ding Ding Records last year and are currently recording a follow up single and EP.
On The Owl Service:
The Owl Service fuse traditional British folk songs with elements of psychedelic rock and recall the great acid-folk bands of the late ’60s/early ’70s but never once sound contrived or overtly retro. Nobody has approached traditional folk music quite like this for over 30 years. Their debut album, an eclectic selection of traditional material interspersed with mostly instrumental originals, was released in June 2008 by Southern Records. The follow up, an epic series of releases under the collective title of The Pattern Beneath the Plough, will see the band delving deeper into the well of our aural heritage.
